Angie and Lenny have been married for five years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they decided to have children and so they intentionally developed a super active social life.

The major issue, it needs to be emphasized, is that almost everything they do socially is related to drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, dinner engagements, family get-togethers, parties with friends, and happy hours they spend time at somehow involve drinking.

If they were moderate or responsible drinkers this wouldn't be a big issue. Due to the fact they drink quite irresponsibly, however, they are beginning to take note of some definite alcohol-related issues in their lives.

For instance, a short time ago Lenny was arrested for a second DUI and has been calling off from work because of alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Lenny's last two performance assessments at work have been less than commendable and he has started to fail to remember what he does or says while he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to agonize over his drinking behavior.

Similarly, Angie has been feeling dejected about life and to deal with this, she has been drinking more regularly than any time in the past three years. What is more, Angie has been experiencing more than a few headaches and suffering from dreadful hangovers from drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling significantly less active when she awakens, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been getting some strong criticism from her friends, relatives, family members, and coworkers about her excessive and hazardous drinking.

One Wednesday evening while watching TV, Lenny and Angie accidentally found an attention-grabbing program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This TV program was a real eye opener to Lenny and Angie because several of the alcohol facts that were discussed seemed like they were unshakably correlated with more than a few of the drinking issues Lenny and Angie had been experiencing.

With thoughts of the TV special still fresh in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been displaying could be an indication that they are alcohol dependent or maybe becoming addicted to alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare professionals at the local drug and alcohol abuse treatment center to find out more about the severity of their drinking problems.

Ironically, even though their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was clear that Angie and Lenny were at the very least dealing with their drinking problems, they were enthusiastic about finding out more about their drinking behavior, and they were concerned about how they could substantially lessen or eliminate the alcohol-related issues that had started to escalate.

When Angie and Lenny went to bed that evening, they decided that the next morning, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the alcohol abuse treatment facility located downtown. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to prevail over the alcohol-related problems that had emerged in their lives, they in point of fact had the most refreshing night's sleep they could remember in the last seven months.
