Andy was a high school ninth grader who regularly seemed to be living on the edge. Andy had an adventurous personality and as a rule wanted to do what his older brothers were doing. The central glitch with this was that all three of his brothers were at least 21 years old and were thus able from a legal perspective to operate a truck or car and to ingest alcohol.

Andy, however, had a rough time understanding the fact that as a fifteen-year-old teen he should not be drinking alcoholic beverages. In fact, nevertheless, Andy frequently drank with his high school buddies after school, largely on the weekends.

One weekend, Andy made up his mind to drive around with some of his older friends. One of his pals was old enough to buy alcohol. After buying some wine coolers, wine, and beer, Andy and his buddies went to a recreational area and drank for something like two or three hours.

After drinking something like five wine coolers, Andy started to feel nauseous and then threw up. When he lost consciousness on the soccer field, one of his cronies called 911 for immediate assistance. It was fortunate that the call for emergency help was made because when his buddies went to the hospital to see Andy, they were notified that Andy had been manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms. More precisely, Andy had suffered through an alcohol overdose.

After receiving alcohol poisoning treatment, Andy was in point of fact taken aback to ascertain that he had overdosed on alcohol because he "only" had roughly five or ten drinks. When he stated this to the attending doctor at the hospital, then again, the healthcare practitioner informed Andy that drinking five or ten alcoholic beverages over a two or three hour time frame could certainly be quite a bit more alcohol than can be processed by the body. The healthcare professional further emphasized how significant amounts of alcohol can cause the brain to shut down an individual's respiratory system and that when this occurs, an individual can perish.

This was the first forewarning to Andy that he was drinking in a hazardous fashion and that there are effects deeds. The healthcare practitioner told Andy that he was a lucky person because he almost perished from alcohol poisoning the previous night.

The physician also had a word with Andy's parents and suggested that they get alcohol counseling for Andy. His parents were jubilant that Andy was out of harm's way and informed the doctor that they would get Andy alcohol rehabilitation.

While speaking to his parents, Andy told them that there must be a special reason why he did not pass away and that he was grateful that he was still alive. He also informed his parents that the peculiar part about the entire drinking episode was that he had learned about alcohol poisoning the last six week grading period at school in Mr. Johnson's health class.

At the time, what his health instructor, Mr. Johnson, was saying didn't seem to make a lot of sense to Andy. Now that he almost passed away, conversely, he felt that he should have listened more carefully in health class and applied what he had learned to his daily living.

Andy informed his parents that he couldn't wait to go to Mr. Johnson's classroom and apologize to Mr. Johnson for not demonstrating more attention to something that was as noteworthy as learning about alcohol poisoning.
